BIWIN Provides Data Collection System with All-Weather Storage Products

A Chinese institution has set up an outdoor weather monitoring station. Its provider eventually realized a data collection and storage solution that features wide temperature operation, continuous high-performance reading and writing, and power failure protection via communication and cooperation with the BIWIN team.

Background & Challenges

BIWIN's team thoughtfully analyzed the customer's needs and sore points. Data collection equipment needs to continuously write data throughout the day, and there are specific rules for writing speed. The collection equipment is operated outdoors, so it has to withstand severe weather such as sun and rain, the significant temperature difference between day and night, along with even snow and freezing disasters. Plus, it is prone to power off in some extreme environments.

Solution

Firmware Algorithms for Stable Use under Intensive Workloads

BIWIN adopts the optimized V-REC algorithm to ensure that high-density writing does not slow down based on the company's industry-leading storage algorithms and firmware development capabilities. It can continuously write more than 400 MB/s under extreme temperatures. In addition, our products support end-to-end data protection to achieve the integrity of data transmission. Plus, they sport the S.M.A.R.T. function to monitor and adjust the operation status of storage products in real-time to ensure the stability of equipment operation.

Rigorous Screening Process and Customized Heat Dissipation Design for Stable Storage under Wide Temperatures

The project team has conducted in-depth research on the characteristics of NAND Flash and finished products to meet the product's need for wide temperature.

BIWIN has formulated the screening program at particle-level and finished-level to ensure that the products can work stably from -40 ℃ to 85 ℃. We also implement an extraordinary heat dissipation design for our products, improving the heat dissipation efficiency by more than 30%. We take a multi-pronged approach to designing a product that can withstand harsh environments, ensuring stable storage under wide temperatures.

Solid PLP Technology for Power Failure Protection

The BIWIN team has coined the PLP power failure protection technology to provide an effective plan for unexpected power failure due to harsh environments. Our products monitor the real-time power supply via the built-in power detection chip and promptly activate the power failure protection module once an abnormality is found.They leverage the power stored in the tantalum capacitor to continuously supply power, providing sufficient time for the data cached in the DRAM to be safely transferred to the flash memory. We can effectively avoid major breakdowns such as failure to recognize disks or loss of firmware due to unexpected power failure. Given that, we ensure the security of firmware programs and stored data. Each device supports more than 20,000 times of abnormal power failure protection.
